Slow but Steady Wins the Race

The Tortoise and The Hare

The Tortoise and the Hare is one of Aesop’s most well know fables. “The story concerns a hare [that] ridicules a slow-moving tortoise and is challenged by him to a race. The hare soon leaves the tortoise behind and, confident of winning, decides to take a nap midway through the course. When he awakes, however, he finds that his competitor, crawling slowly but steadily, has arrived before him.”

The meaning of the fable has been a topic of wide debate.  Was the Hare foolish and over-confident?  Was it that the tortoise stood up to a bully?  Regardless of your of interpretation, I think we can all agree that undeniable lesson we can take away is Slow but Steady Wins the Race.

As we apply this lesson to our strategic direction, we gravitate toward consistent and steady investments, while still making sure we “win the race”.

Longevity

One of the most successful animals in the history of the world is the tortoise. These animals belong to an ancient group of reptiles, appearing about 250 million years ago. Giant tortoises are among the world's longest-living animals, with an average lifespan of 100 years or more.
